Baked Bourbon Dr. Pepper Ham

Served with a glass of dry red wine, this is a 10.2 g dinner

Baked Bourbon Dr. Pepper Ham

Total Yield: 1 ham - 0 g of carbs

Serving Size: 4 oz of meat - 0 g of carbs

Prep Time: 10 min

Cook Time: 4 - 6 hours (depends on size of ham)

Total Time: About 4 - 6 hours

Ingredients: Carbs:

1 ham (we made a 10 lb ham) 0 g

1 c. bourbon 0 g

1 c. diet Dr. Pepper 0g

4 tbsp butter 0 g

Directions:

Preheat oven to 325º.

Remove extra fat from ham. Score it with diamonds about 3/4" deep. This will allow the glaze to penetrate the ham and give more flavor. Place the ham in a roasting pan. Add about 1 cup of water to the bottom of the pan.

In a small sauce pan, add the bourbon, Dr. Pepper, and butter. Heat on medium heat until the butter melts. Pour a little of this glaze on the ham.

Make a foil tent over the ham, and place in the oven.

Every 30 minutes or so, add a little more glaze to the ham and re-tent the foil.

A rule of thumb with baked ham is to cook it for about 18-20 minutes per pound.

When the ham is close to an internal temperature of 135º, remove the foil and broil the ham for about 5 minutes. This will make the outside of the ham crispier. Make sure it doesn't burn.

Remove the ham from the oven, and place the foil on top of the ham once again. The ham will continue to cook once out of the oven.

Allow the ham to cool for 15 - 20 minutes before carving and serving.

Notes:

We paired this ham with Green Bean Hotdish for Easter.

Making a ham like this every few months is awesome because then we have leftover ham which is great for omelets, salads, and quick dinners. Really helpful for busy times of life!
